Addressing Housing Crisis in Parksville Qualicum Beach Region

SOS is teaming up with the non-profit organization Happipad to help address the housing crisis in the region. The Parksville-Qualicum Beach Home-Share Program, supported by Oceanside Task Force on Homelessness-The Government of Canada’s Homeless Partnering Strategy (OTFH-HPS), will help people share their homes with screened, compatible renters while earning them extra income. Individuals looking for housing will be able access a network of trusted homeowners, and, find comfortable, affordable housing that suits their lifestyles through Happipad’s platform.

“We’re very excited to be bringing this important program to our region,” said Susanna Newton, SOS Executive Director. “At SOS we see the effects of the housing crisis daily, and this is a fantastic tool to try to help residents stay in, or return to, secure housing.”

SOS has been meeting the needs and enriching the lives of residents since 1968. The non-profit charity provides 25 programs to residents of all ages in the Parksville Qualicum Beach region, most of them free, while the others are subsidized by SOS. The new home-share program aligns with SOS’s mission to improve community and provide a safety net for District 69 residents.

Oceanside Task Force on Homelessness is a collaborative group of dedicated individuals and organizations working together to address homelessness in our region.

HPS is a community-based program initiated through the Government of Canada aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness.
